The Rigaku R-axis SPIDER is a self-contained system. It is equipped with cylindrical Imaging Plate Detector System and a nitrogen cryostream for data collection down to -193 ēC. Liquid nitrogen is generated from the air by a liquefier, and the system is thus completely autonomous.

It can measure single-crystals, thin-films and powders (Debye-Scherrer geometry) with a variety of sources (Mo and Cu are currently used).


The Syntex X-ray diffractometer is used for single-crystal measurements (uses a Cu source).


The Crystal Logic double-beam diffractometer exploits two directions of a Mo source, with two diffractometers mounted at a 180° angle. Thus, two measurements can be carried out with one source.


The Siemens D500 X-ray diffractometer is used for powdered samples and thin films analysis (Bragg-Brentano geometry).

Synthetic lab for standard syntheses


Ventilated crystallization cupboard with wall-mounted support mesh. Used to store and observe crystallization experiments (e.g. layaring tubes, slowly evaporating solutions) without the solvent vapors escaping to the workplace and without disturbing the solutions.
Inert-atmosphere techniques

Schlenk-line with vacuum and inert gas manifolds for work under anaerobic conditions. Equipped with mercury bubblers/manometers (one for each manifold), allowing greater functionality (e.g. purging both manifolds, flame-sealing glass ampoules or NMR tubes under partial vacuum, etc)

The gas stream is purified and dried by passing through molecular sieves and fully deoxygenated by passing through a manganese(II) oxide catalyst.

MBraun Labmaster glovebox for work under anaerobic conditions.

Equipped with a double-valve plug connected to a secondary vacuum pump via a coldtrap, allowing additional operations inside the glovebox (vacuum filtrations, vacuum drying, etc)
