Magnetism in iron-oxide based nanoparticles

Magnetic particles in the nanoscale are considered to be of high importance in the area of nanomagnetism both from the theoretical and the experimental point of view. Interesting phenomena such as spin-glass-like behaviour, core-shell structure, superparamagnetic state and single to multi domain transitions are investigated. We synthesize ferrite nanoparticles using wet chemistry methods in various sizes between 3 to 50 nm. Structural and magnetic characterization is performed by using standard laboratory techniques. 57Fe NMR spectroscopy and SQUID magnetometry are employed for static and dynamic microscopic investigation of the magnetic nanoparticles from liquid helium up to room temperature.
