<p><i><B>A metamagnetic 2D copper(II)-azide complex with 1D ferromagnetism and a hysteretic spin-flop transition</B></i></p> <p>G. Lazari, T. C. Stamatatos, C. P. Raptopoulou, V. Psycharis, M. Boudalis<br> <i>Dalton Transactions, 2009, DOI: 10.1039/b823423j</i></p> <p>Complex [Cu<sub>3</sub>(N<sub>3</sub>)<sub>6</sub>(dmf)<sub>2</sub>]<sub>n</sub> is a 2D coordination polymer possessing μ<sub>1,1,1</sub> and μ<sub>1,1,3</sub> azido ligands. Through end-on azides, it forms chains that run parallel to the <i>a</i> axis; these chains form sheets parallel to the <i>ab</i> plane through end-to-end azides. While the intrachain coupling is ferromagnetic, the interchain coupling is antiferromagnetic. This AF coupling, is weak enough to be overcome by moderate magnetic fields at 2 K leading to a metamagnetic spin-flop transition at 2.7 T. The transition is first-order, leading to hysteresis of the order of 0.2 T. </p> <p><i><B>Synthesis and characterization of the tetranuclear iron(III) complex of a new asymmetric multidentate ligand. Gahan<br> <i>Dalton Transactions, 2007, 5132 - 5139 </i> <p>Purple acid phosphatases (PAPs) are key metalloenzymes, which catalyze the hydrolysis of many phosphorylated substrates at acidic to neutral environments. The binucleating ligand H2HPBMA was used for the preparation of a ferric structural model of the active site of the enzyme. The tetranuclear complex formed, was shown to conserve several structural aspects of the enzyme's active site and was studied by a variety of techniques.</p>
