Ceramics and Composite Materials

Researcher in charge: V. Kilikoglou

The research objectives are the development and application of methods for the study of deterioration mechanisms of archaeological and modern composite materials, the reconstruction of ancient technologies (e.g. ceramics, mortars etc.), as well as the determination of the provenance of raw materials and their processing. A further objective is the development of materials for the restoration and conservation of monuments, compatible with the original materials. This comprises the examination of setting processes and the assessment of the long term behaviour of common conservation materials.
